Practice Fluent English
Say it the way it is said.
CopyCat is shadowing practice for spoken English. Listen to a sentence, say it back, and see your voice next to the original: where the stress falls, and how the voice rises and falls.
What a sentence looks like in CopyCat
Here in Washington DC the weather changes often.
Listen, say it back, compare
One sentence at a time. Nothing to read about and nothing to set up: press the button and the lesson leads.
Listen
The sentence plays while its words move past, each one sized by how strongly it is said.
Say it back
Say the sentence after it. CopyCat records your voice and checks the words it hears.
Compare
Your voice is played next to the original and drawn under it, so the difference can be heard and seen.
When a sentence is hard
CopyCat breaks it into smaller parts, then into the words that went wrong, and builds it back up to the whole sentence. A blue line under the words shows the part to say now.
Stories at three levels
Short stories and talks, a few minutes each. Many are from VOA Learning English, a service of the Voice of America.
Make a lesson of what you need to say
The stories are a start. The sentences that matter most are your own, and CopyCat turns them into a lesson of up to 10 minutes.
From text
Paste the words and an AI voice says them: a woman or a man, natural or a little slower. Then practise them like any other lesson.
A job interview
Write the answer to “Tell me about yourself” and say it until it comes out without thinking.
A talk or a presentation
Paste the speech. Hear where the stress goes in every sentence before standing up to give it.
The sentences of your work
How you open a meeting, introduce yourself on a call, or explain what your company does.
Just for fun
A poem, a toast for a friend's wedding, a bedtime story to read to a child.
From a recording
A voice memo, a sound file or a video. CopyCat writes down what it hears, or uses the words you paste, and the voice to copy is the one in the recording.
A friend who speaks English well
Ask for a minute of voice memo about anything at all, and learn to sound like someone you know.
A teacher or a colleague
Have them read your talk or your interview answers aloud, then practise against their voice.
A speaker you like
A short clip you have saved of a talk or an interview, for your own practice.
The accent you want
British, American, Australian: record someone who has it and copy how they say things.
