- It shows no advertising and does not follow you across other apps and websites.
- Text and recordings sent to make a lesson are used to make it and are not kept by CopyCat.
- A name and an email address are asked for only when you write to support.
What CopyCat collects, and why
| What | Why, and where it goes | Tied to you |
|---|---|---|
| How the app is used | Which lessons are opened, started and finished, and whether making a lesson or a purchase went through. It shows where the app is hard to use. Sent to Google Firebase Analytics with an identifier for this installation of the app. The advertising identifier is not used. | No |
| Crash reports | What the app was doing when it stopped working, so the fault can be fixed. Sent to Google Firebase Crashlytics. | No |
| Text for a lesson | To have an AI voice read it. Sent to CopyCat's server and from there to OpenAI. CopyCat's server keeps neither the text nor the sound; it records only how long they were. | No |
| A recording for a lesson | To write down the words that are said. Sent to CopyCat's server and from there to OpenAI. CopyCat's server does not keep it. | No |
| Your voice while practising | To check the words you say. Recognised by Apple's speech recognition: on the device when the device can do it, otherwise on Apple's servers. | No |
| Name, email address and message | Only when you write to support from Need Help? in the app, so that the message can be answered. Held by Zendesk, the service CopyCat uses for support. | Yes |
| Purchases | Lesson packs are bought through Apple. CopyCat is told that a pack was bought; it never sees card or payment details. | No |
What stays on the device
Progress through the lessons and the lessons you make are kept on the device. Deleting the app removes them.
Who else handles it
CopyCat does not sell anything it collects. These companies handle it on CopyCat's behalf, each under its own terms:
- Apple: purchases, delivery of the app, and speech recognition while practising.
- Google (Firebase): how the app is used, and crash reports.
- OpenAI: reading a text aloud and writing a recording down.
- Amazon Web Services: runs CopyCat's server.
- Zendesk: messages to support.
How long it is kept
Text and recordings sent to make a lesson are not kept by CopyCat once the lesson is made. Records of how the app is used are kept with the installation's identifier for up to 14 months; after that only totals remain, which point to no one. Crash reports are kept for 90 days. Messages to support are kept until you ask for them to be deleted.
Your choices
To see, correct or delete what you sent to support, write to support@saycopycat.com. Microphone and speech recognition access can be turned off in the device's Settings at any time; CopyCat then cannot listen to you practise.
Children
CopyCat is rated 4+ on the App Store and has nothing in it that is unsuitable for a child. It has no accounts and asks a child for nothing. Writing to support needs a name and an email address, so a parent or guardian should do that for a child under 13. If we learn that a child's details reached support without a parent's consent, we delete them.
Changes and contact
When this policy changes, the new one is put on this page with the date it takes effect. Questions go to support@saycopycat.com.
